The Region - Torres Vedras District - Parish of S. Pedro da Cadeira

The Parish of S. Pedro da Cadeira

The parish of S. Pedro da Cadeira is one of the most ancient parishes in the council of Torres Vedras, dating back to the second half of the XVII century, one of the first references of its existence.
The inicial territory occupied by this parish was bigger, but in September 1926 the parish was dismembered to create a new parish named Silveira.

Situated close to the left bank of the Sizandro river, occupying an area of little more than 22km2, has on its border the parish of Silveira to the north, the parish of Ventosa to the east the council of Mafra to the south and to the west the Atlantic Ocean. The headquarters of the parish is found fifty five kilometres from Lisbon, about fourteen kilometres from the town of Torres Vedras and ten kilometres from the Santa Cruz beach.

The about four and a half thousand inhabitants are spread out through the following localities:

  • Assenta
  • Azenha-Velha
  • Barrocas
  • Becearias
  • Cambelas
  • Casal Pinheiro
  • Coutada
  • Escaravilheira
  • Feiteiras
  • Gentias
  • S. Pedro da Cadeira
  • Soltaria
